CAMPING GEAR
- Duffel bag (with scout name and Rugged Adventurers program name on outside, e.g., "JOHN SMITH, RUGGED CANOERS")
- DRY BAG - The best way to ensure your gear stays dry. Please make sure your sleeping bag can fit inside along with your other personal gear.
- Sunglasses with Strap
- Mask, snorkel, swim fins - You can rent this equipment at camp if you do not have your own.
- Wetsuit - Highly recommended. We will spend long periods of time in the cool waters of the Pacific Ocean. A wetsuit will allow you to stay in longer and be much more comfortable while snorkeling and exploring.
- Rash Guard- if your wetsuit does not fit perfectly, this will prevent mild abrasions as well as fill some space to increase warmth.

- Spending money ($65-$75 in $1, $5, and $10 bills. Scouts will have an opportunity to buy dinner in Avalon if they choose)

Physical Conditioning
In the past, we have found that physically fit participants enjoy the Rugged Adventurers experience much more than those who are struggling simply to finish the activities. In addition, an adventurer who must use all of his energy simply to finish a hike will be ill-suited to devote any energy to group dynamics, decisionmaking, and developing his skills as a leader. The fitter you are when you come into the program, the more you will get out of it. A program of regular aerobic exercise is highly recommended to become physically conditioned for Rugged Adventurers. Plan to exercise at least 30 to 60 minutes three to five times a week.
Jogging, swimming, cycling, and other forms of aerobic exercise are all excellent ways to prepare. How fast you run or how far you go is not nearly as important as getting regular exercise. Start slowly and gradually increase the duration and intensity of your exercises. If necessary, consult with your doctor to develop an exercise plan suited to your needs.
